Chana Dal Palak (Split Yellow Chickpeas With Spinach) In the Microwave

In the pursuit of my 'Go Green' drive specially in the season of the abundance of fresh greens available Chana dal palak is one dish which is a must try. Chana dal palak (split yellow chickpeas with spinach) cooks fast and perfect in the microwave. That’s the reason I always prefer micro to pressure cooker cooking for this particular dish. Try this and see how easily it cooks with all the flavors mingled just right…

How to make it:
 



Ingredients:
 


  • 250 gms chana dal/split yellow chickpeas washed and soaked overnight in warm water
  • 1 big onion finely chopped
  • 1 tsp ginger paste
  • 1 tsp garlic paste
  • 1 tomato chopped
  • ½ kg fresh palak/spinach properly washed and chopped
  • A pinch of asafoetida
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 dry whole red chillies
  • 1 tsp deghi red chilli powder
  • 1 tablespoon ghee/clarified butter
  • 1 tablespoon white oil/canola/any vegetable oil
  • Salt to taste

Process:
 


Step 1:


In a microwave safe bowl cook covered chana dal and chopped spinach with two cups of water and salt at 100% power for 15-20 minutes. Check in between and if needed add more water according to your preferred consistency.


Step 2:


Now in another microwave safe bowl heat oil and ghee together at 100% power for 1 minute. Throw in the cumin seeds, whole red chillies and asafoetida. Put inside the microwave for 30 seconds at full power or 100% power.


Step 3:


Now add the chopped onions, ginger paste and garlic paste and cook for 3 minutes at full power. Stir once in between.


Step 4:


Add the chopped tomatoes and powder masalas. Cook for 2 minutes more stirring once in between.

Step 5:
 

Add the sautéed masala to the chana dal and spinach. Mix well and put in the micro for 2 minutes covered at full power. Chana dal palak is ready. Serve with hot fulkas…bliss!!!
